ABOUT
I’ve spent most of my adult life in two very different worlds.
One is technology. I started working in IT in the 1990s and have been behind computers ever since. Support, systems, infrastructure, Linux, troubleshooting. Different jobs and different technology, but a whole lot of time sitting in front of a screen.
The other world is physical.
I was an athlete before I was an IT guy. Track and field, basketball, football, bodybuilding, strength and conditioning. Training has been part of my life for decades, even as the way I train and the reasons I do it have changed.
Those two worlds eventually started teaching me things about each other.
THE BODY BEHIND THE COMPUTER
When I was younger, I figured being athletic and training hard would protect me from the physical cost of working behind a desk.
It doesn't work that way.
Eight or ten hours sitting doesn't disappear because you trained for an hour afterward. Years behind a computer add up. Hips get tight. Movement changes. Little aches show up. Recovery isn't what it was at 25.
At 50+, I'm much more interested in training for the life I actually live.
I still want to be strong. I still want muscle. I still want to move like somebody who has been an athlete his entire life.
But I'm not training for a medal, a bodybuilding stage, or somebody else's idea of fitness.
I train to hold my own everywhere it counts.
WHY I WRITE
This site is where I work through the things I'm learning, testing, remembering, and occasionally changing my mind about.
A lot of it will be fitness, especially training for people who spend their working lives behind computers.
Some of it will be technology and AI. I've worked in tech for more than 30 years. I'm interested in where this stuff is going, but I'm just as interested in what it's actually useful for right now.
And some of it will simply be life.
I'm not trying to turn every thought into a lesson or every experience into a five-step framework. Sometimes something is worth writing down because it's worth thinking about.
Writing helps me figure out what I think.
Publishing lets you see it.
If something I've learned saves somebody else a little time, helps them train better, gets them thinking, or keeps them from making one of the mistakes I've already made, even better.
Each one teach one.

HEY, I’M Z…
I’ve spent more than 30 years working in tech and most of my life training.
Former Division I long jumper. Veteran. Dad. Lifelong student of strength, movement, technology, and whatever else catches my attention.
This is where I write down what I've learned and what I'm still figuring out.
Each one teach one.
